Adjusting Modern Fence Technologies' Adjustable Hinges

American Made Adjustable Hinges By Modern Fence Technologies

To adjust hinge, determine whether the end of the gate needs to go up or down by checking the fit of the latch.  The goal is to have the “pin” of the latch so that it easily engages the “catch” part of the latch.

If the end of the gate needs to move, locate the “T-rod” section of the top hinge.  It has two adjustment nuts that must be moved in order to adjust the gate.  On the top hinge, moving the nuts closer to the gate post, causes the end of the gate to move up, moving the nuts away from the post makes the end go down. On the bottom hinge, moving the nuts away from the gate post moves the gate end up, moving them closer to the post will lower the gate end.

Decide which hinge you want to adjust based on which way the end of the gate needs to move, while considering the gap between the gate and the gate posts.  The goal is to try to keep the gap consistent on both sides of the gate. It may be necessary to adjust both hinges to make the gate look right, and the latch to operate correctly.

To adjust the gate, loosen the nut closest to the direction you need to move the gate by turning the nut counter-clockwise, to move it out of the way.  Then, using a wrench, begin turning the other nut on the T-rod, watching the gap to see the change.  A small turn here will result in a significant change at the end of the gate.
